Hair Removal

Unwelcome hair growth can be embarrassing for everyone.

And although there are plenty of hair removal options, they aren’t always worth it. Shaving and depilatory creams might be a quick fix, but they only get rid of the hair at the surface—not to mention the risk of nicks and adverse skin reactions. Waxing and plucking may deliver longer-lasting results, but treatments are painful and time-consuming.

Where does that leave you?
The Daydreams Esthetics Team is transforming hair removal by using advanced technology to permanently reduce unwanted hair on the face and body. You can finally enjoy smooth, hair-free skin with results that last longer than traditional methods.

FAQ

Yes. During your consultation a Skin Team Member will explain the IPL treatment process and discuss all of your concerns.

No. It is actually recommended that you shave the area before being treated. However, waxing, bleaching, tweezing or any other hair removal method that removes the root should be stopped  a few days to a week before treatment.

Many women feel embarrassed about hair on the face, neck, chest, hands, feet, buttocks, bikini line or other areas. At the same time, men sometimes are embarrassed by excessive hair on their shoulders, backs, noses, ears, eyebrows, hands and other parts.

Male IPL hair removal of the back, chest, abdomen and shoulders are some of our most common treatment areas.

A handheld flashgun is passed across the skin delivering a spectrum of light which targets the melanin. The light travels through the skin until it strikes the hair root/bulb. This is where the highest concentration of melanin is located. As the light is absorbed the bulb and the hair is heated, destroying the papilla which produces the hair.

Treatments take between 15 and 60 minutes depending on the treatment area with bikini lines taking around 15 minutes and legs around 45.

IPL takes about 6 sessions to get rid of 70% of hair permanently. Also the way IPL works by killing the follicle means that in-growing hairs will no longer be a problem. There is no need to grow out your hair before treatment as it is necessary to shave (not wax or pluck) on the day or the day before your treatment.

For IPL hair removal, you’ll likely need 6-10 treatments per area, again depending on each individual person and the area being treated.

It is dependent on the area of hair removal and also the thickness and colour of hair. During the treatment, hairs will shrivel. Then over the next week or two the hairs will begin to shed. Many see results quicker in areas such as underarms than they do in the bikini line and on their legs. Results will also be seen immediately when the hair tries to regrow, however it will be patchy and only after several sessions will many areas be nearly hair free!

Make sure your skin is clean. Do not apply any lotions, creams or makeup (if you’re getting a treatment on your face) before your session, and stop using any products that might irritate your skin 2-3 days before. Remove all jewelry around the area being treated. The technician will shave and clean the area before starting your treatment. They will also ask about your medical history, so it helps to have that information ready. For IPL hair removal, you should also avoid tanning before your treatment.

We realize that shaving the bikini area or other sensitive areas may be tough for some but we encourage you to try as it is typically more comfortable shaving themselves than if we have to. Please make sure that you are freshly showered with clean skin. No lotions, creams or fragrances of any kind should be worn.

For IPL hair removal, it feels like the light snap with an elastic band against your skin as the applicator moves around the treatment area. The applicator has a built-in cooling feature to make the treatment as comfortable as possible, but you might feel a bit of discomfort if you’re treating a more sensitive area, like along the bikini line.

If you find it too uncomfortable, let your treatment provider know and they can adjust the settings accordingly.

Your skin may look dry and feel a little itchy because the operator has to dry-shave the area before starting the treatment. Moisturizing can help relieve the itch. Other than that, you shouldn’t really feel any different after your treatment.

It depends on how your hair grows. Some people may see longer-lasting hair removal, while others who see sporadic hair growth in the area may need a touch-up treatment to maintain the results.

Learn More about IPL Hair Removal

IPL which stands for intense pulsed light is not a laser device. It has a much less targeted approach by utilizing a broad spectrum of visible light. This means multiple wavelengths operate at once targeting more than one chromophore.

These wavelengths of energy target the colour and depth of the hair follicle. The energy is absorbed by the hair within the follicle and over several days the follicles are ejected from the body.

An average of six to eight treatments is recommended for optimal results.

Benefits

  • Treatments are super handy and quick. You get down to business, get your treatment over, and go out and on with your day as nothing happened. Plus, you don’t have to spend all of that time each and every day shaving since the results are permanent.

  • Think of just how much money you spend each and every time you have to go in for a waxing session. Add that up over the course of your adult life, and you’re well above how much a laser treatment will cost. So you save much more money with laser in the long run.

  • Treatments can significantly reduce the occurrence of those pesky bumps. Plus, it’s great for those who have very sensitive skin and experience irritation after shaving or waxing.
